What I realized is that we all have our own definitions for success, but for the most part, many of us based success on what we’ve accomplished, what we’ve acquired, how much money we make and how others view us…reality check!
Although I’m pretty head strong, I’m not exempt from this definition.
I can’t say where it all stemmed from for me, but I can say that no matter how much I seemed to accomplish, it was never enough. It’s always been that continuous press for more, more, more, no matter what the cost.
I worked nights (16 hr shifts), weekends, in college (night classes), etc…
Facing The Peer Pressure of Our Industry
If you follow several different leaders in this industry of Network Marketing & Internet Marketing, you will probably find that you’re often intimidated or insecure about if you’re doing enough.
The constant pressure to compare yourself to others, and ask, Am I giving this my all? Am I working hard enough? may often hit you daily.
Work Ethic is critical in our industry and so is Time Management, but one thing that’s never really been addressed is the fact that a great deal of leaders in this industry often fall into one of the categories below:
- 1. Single and don’t have kids or a spouse and any other level of responsibility but themselves to worry about, which means they can work 24/7 uninterrupted, and accomplish a whole lot more because of the stage their in.
- 2. Married but have no kids.
- 3. Married with kids but the spouse primarily takes care of the household.
- 4. May or May not be married with kids and is the primary breadwinner but has tons of help like family!
- 1. Primary breadwinner with kids and carrying the full load of responsibility for their household with very little help
- 2. Mom or Dad that has newborns and is the primary breadwinner carrying the full load of responsibility for their household with very little help
I want you to realize that you may be comparing yourself and your accomplishment to those that have very little barriers of responsibility like we do as parents, especially if your a single parent or have little ones like I do.
Here’s The Truth
In our industry it’s all about creating a perception of perfection.
It’s enticement is to lure people in by sharing the story of your perfect life, perfect income and perfect toys, while others drool and desire to be you.
But I’m not with that!!
I believe in telling it like it is, pulling back the curtains and giving you a full view so you can have a “realistic” point of view, rather than chase illusions that don’t exist.

I’m not perfect.
I make tons of mistakes.
The Revelation
In 2010 after being laid off and trying to get back into the workplace, I came to the realization that my meltdown was caused by me realizing that I’m finally in a stage of my life where I value my family more than I value work.Instead of my previous layout of priorities which were:
1. Work first
2. Family second
They’ve finally shifted to it’s proper order of
1. Family first
2. Work Second
If you catch yourself always putting work over family so you can chase a dream, stop and give them you.
They’d rather have you today than some far-fetched promise for what tomorrow may never bring…reality check!!!
Therefore today, I seek to be successful in both!
Do you find you’re comparing yourselves to people whose lives differ personally?
I’d love to hear your input and feedback!
To Your Success,
